Visitor Visa

​The UK visitor route allows individuals to travel to the UK for a range of temporary purposes, including tourism, visiting family and friends, business activities, short-term study and private medical treatment.

Depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for a Visitor visa before travelling to the UK. Some travellers may instead require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travel.

The most common route is the Standard Visitor visa, which usually allows visits to the UK for up to 6 months per visit. However, visitors must satisfy the Home Office that they are genuine visitors and will comply with the conditions of their stay.

Visitors are generally not permitted to work in the UK, access public funds or live in the UK through frequent or successive visits.

Visitor Visa Requirements

• Sufficient funds for the trip

• Accommodation arrangements in the UK

• Strong personal, employment or financial ties outside the UK

• Previous immigration and travel history

Additional documents may also be required depending on the type of visit.

 

Business Visitors

The UK allows certain business-related activities under the visitor route, including attending meetings, conferences, training, negotiations and some limited business activities permitted under the Immigration Rules.

However, the visitor route has strict limitations on working in the UK. It is important to obtain advice before travelling if there is any uncertainty regarding permitted activities.

 

Family Visits

Individuals may visit family members living in the UK for short stays. Applications can often be strengthened through clear supporting evidence from both the applicant and the UK-based family member or sponsor.
